Gas Safety Tips

A poorly maintained gas appliance can cause gas leaks, fires, explosions and carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning. Therefore, it is extremely important that we take good care of our gas appliances in order to remain safe.

Here are Fixx’s gas safety tips to help keep you safe:

  1. Ensure all gas appliances are installed and serviced regularly by a Gas Safe Registered engineer – Here at Fixx all of our engineers are on the Gas Safe Register so, you can have peace of mind that all installations and services carried out by us are completed safely and efficiently to the highest standards.
  2. Do not use any gas appliances if you think they are not working properly – Gas appliances that aren’t operating correctly can display lazy yellow flames, excessive condensation and black stains/marks. However, be aware that gas appliances can be unsafe without displaying the above symptoms so, it’s best to have the checked regularly.
  3. Only use gas appliances for their intended purposes.
  4. Fit a carbon monoxide alarm near to your gas appliance.
  5. Make yourself aware of the symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning – Symptoms include dizziness, headaches, nausea, breathlessness, collapses and loss of consciousness.
  6. Do not cover up ventilation for gas appliances, there is needs to be enough ventilation for your gas appliance to burn correctly.

Always ask to see your engineer’s Gas Safe Register ID card – Ensure you check the front and back of the ID card to confirm the Engineer’s identity, registration and if they are qualified to carry out the gas work you’ve employed them to do.

If you are a tenant living in a rented property, make sure your landlord gives you an annual gas safety check.
